At admission, patients are given an information packet outlining expectations for being in the Behavioral Health Department. Each person is asked for his/her willing, active participation in establishing treatment goals and learning about their rights as a patient.
Patients receive a comprehensive evaluation including medical, psychiatric, family and psychosocial components. Following the evaluation, a plan of care is formulated tailored to each individual's needs.
 Services and Therapy Programs
- Comprehensive Medical and Psychiatric Assessments
- Individual Therapy - Therapy consists of private, one-on-one sessions with the doctor or other staff members as needed and enables each patient to express their feelings individually.
- Group Therapy - Patients are provided with a forum to deal with interpersonal difficulties and a place to look at their interactions with others in a safe, structured setting. Groups are led by an experienced therapist and are available at different levels of functioning.
- Family/Couples Therapy - For some patients, couples or family therapy may be used in conjunction with other individual therapies.
- Pet Therapy - Pet therapy provides an opportunity for people in physical and emotional crisis to benefit from animal companionship. It has proven especially useful in improving socialization and interaction.
- Medication Management - Educational information and an opportunity to discuss prescribed medications is provided. Topics may include usage, side effects and the importance of taking medications as prescribed.
- Substance Abuse Assessment - After admission, an assessment of substance abuse issues is completed. Closed meetings for Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous are offered, if needed.
- Smoke-Free Policy - The Behavioral Health Department does not permit patients to smoke during their inpatient treatment; nor are smoking materials allowed in their possession. Staff members offer their personal and professional support to help you stop smoking, and provide resources and referral to smoking cessation classes.
- Planning for Discharge and Continued Care - When care is complete, the doctor writes an order for discharge. A nurse discusses any follow-up visits scheduled with your doctor or a mental health center, as well as medication dosage and possible side effects of your prescribed medications.
